                    Wild looks and charming personalities

I used to be a registered breeder of Bengal Cats. Unfortunately in my personal life I had some setbacks and had to move into smaller place and as a result I had to sell my cattery. They all retired now and have good homes. I do miss my cats and I have some great memories, so I thought why not share some of my pics and tell you  a bit more about Bengals.

Origins of the Bengal Cat

Bengal is a hybrid and was created in the 1960's by breeding a wild Asian leopard with a domestic cat. Bengals was developed to obtain a cat with wild looks, but with the temperament and charm of a domestic cat. This is the "living room leopard" that cat lovers have been dreaming of for years. Bengals are considered domesticated from the 4th generation.

What makes a Bengal unique
.
Most of the Bengals unique characteristics they inherited from the wild Asian leopard cat

#1 Bengal's do not have fur but more of a pelt coat this is a lovely soft coat that came from their wild ancestors. They do shed but less than other breeds. Bengals sometimes look like they sprinkled with gold dust, especially when they in direct sunlight, this is because the tips of the hairs is where air encircles the hair shaft and refracts light, giving the hair the gold shimmer(glitter), some say frequent brushing might damage the hair tips, as a result I never brushed them before a show.

#2 They love water, they really do, unlike other breeds they are not scared of water. Leave the bath or basin tap open and you will see what I mean. They will even get into a shallow pool or pond.

#3 They can be very vocal and chatty, and it's not a good idea to ignore them or the noises will just get louder. Owning a Bengal opens you up for a strange collection of cat noises. They do meow but also make other noises from a long meow also called a yowl to a chirping noise that some say is directly related to their hunting instincts.

#4 They have huge personalities, they are clowns, daredevils, thrill seekers, lovers, bossy, entertainers and extremely affectionate, but usually not lap-cats, they prefer to be near you but but not on you. They like to be where the action is. When they are in the mood they will seek out the lap of their favorite person.

#5 They are great at jumping and climbing, they can leap very high and climb the tallest trees, with these skills they have the ability to hide in the most unthinkable places and will most likely beat you hands down at a game of hide and seek.
